The Shiromani Akali Dal core committee met in New Delhi on Sunday under party president Sukhbir Singh Badal to discuss ‘The Inter State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2019’.
The SAD core committee unanimously decided that the Bill is against the interests of the people of Punjab.The committee resolved that the party has always stood for the cause of waters of Punjab and will safeguard the interests of waters of Punjab by any means. The party shall apprise the Prime Minister and Union Jal Shakti Minister on Monday about the gravity of the situation and will urge them not to press this Bill in the Rajya Sabha in the present form, said a party spokesperson.The meeting discussed in detail ‘The Inter State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2019’ and resolved that the passage of this Bill is a grave injustice with the people of Punjab, the spokesperson said.
The SAD core committee made it very clear that ‘The Inter State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2019’ is not going to help the aggrieved people of the state in any way but rather it will further jeopardize the water rights of people of Punjab if passed in the present form.
