Condemning the unfortunate incident of burning of three birs of Sikhs’ holy scripture — Guru Granth Sahib — at Shahabad Markanda in Haryana, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday urged the Haryana Government to order a probe into the incident to nab the culprits behind this sacrilegious act.

SAD president Sukhbir Badal said that he was shocked that three birs of Guru Granth Sahib were found burnt at the premises of Gurudwara Sahib in Nahar Majra village of Shahbad Markanda in Kurukshetra district on Thursday morning.

This unfortunate incident had resulted in a wave of sorrow and grief amongst the Sikh community, he said adding that this could be the work of some miscreants there could also be a larger conspiracy to foment communal tension at a time when the situation was still volatile.

Urging the Haryana government to immediately order a probe to trace the culprits behind this heinous act, the SAD president said that the government must deal with the miscreants with an iron hand to ensure the communal fabric of the society was not distorted by such kinds of sacrilegious acts. He also urged the Haryana government to ensure the safety of all gurdwaras in the state by making appropriate security arrangements at all sensitive areas.

He also appealed the Sikh community of Haryana to be vigilant and guard the Gurdwaras to keep miscreants at bay.
