Shiromani Akali Dal president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Sunday condemned the bomb attack on a Gurdwara in Essen in Germany wherein three persons were injured, besides damage to the shrine.
He has urged Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take up the issue of safety of Sikhs and their religious places with the German Government.
“The news of a bomb attack on a Gurdwara in Germany called for concerted efforts to sensitise people across the world about Sikh religion and its unique concepts of peace and universal brotherhood,” he said while appealing all Sikhs, particularly Gurdwara Management Committees in various countries including SGPC and DSGMC, to launch an awareness campaign in this regard.
Sukhbir said that the Centre should ask its embassy in Germany to provide immediate help to the injured as well as work with the local Sikh community to assist in rebuilding of the Sikh shrine.
At the same time, describing the attack at Gurdwara Nanaksar Satsang Darbar in Germany as a detestable act, Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that Akali Dal would demand an appropriate and timely action against the culprits through Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Majithia, in an interaction with the media in Majitha constituency, said that the attacks on overseas Sikh places of worship are a cause of grave concern.
Hoping that the German government would take the issue seriously and bring justice to the Sikh community, he made an appeal to the Sikh Diaspora to build due pressure on the German Government to achieve justice.
