SAD condemnes false case against local body chief

Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday strongly condemned the efforts of Punjab Cabinet Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to grab the Municipal Council of Morinda by registering a false case of theft against its legally elected President and his 20 others supporters.

“This glaring act amounts to day light murder of democracy in the state of Punjab,” said SAD secretary and Punjab’s former Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema urging the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to rein in his Cabinet colleagues and take action against them for their unlawful and unconstitutional actions.

Cheema said that SAD-BJP alliance has got the support of nine out 15 elected councilors, “but after the change of guard in the state, Channi who is MlA of the area, started harassing our councillors with the aim to pressurize them to defect to the ruling party”.

To achieve their goal, the Congress party brought no confidence motion against our president on April 24. “But when eight councilors came out to support the president, then sensing defeat, Channi first tried to get the election postponed through district administration but when our councillors registered and passed the resolution in favour of president in the proceeding book, Channi got a false case registered against the president along with 20 other unidentified supporters for stealing proceeding book,” he alleged.

Cheema added that the action of the Congress Minister “speaks volumes about the respect which this government is giving to the elected representatives”. Releasing all documents as a proof, Cheema said: “I have spoken to the Deputy Commissioner Ropar and urged her to look into the matter and do justice to our workers. If the case against our workers is not cancelled, SAD would chalk out a further plan to get justice for our workers.”
