A high level joint delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party led by BJP Punjab president and Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla will meet the Chief Election Commissioner of India on Wednesday to demand high level independent inquiry and immediate cancelation of “false” cases registered against large number of senior leaders of SAD belonging to Gurdaspur district.

SAD will be represented by its MPs - Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Naresh Gujral, party general secretary Maheshinder Singh Grewal, and secretary Daljit Singh Cheema; while former minister Madan Mohan Mittal, MP Shavet Malik, and former state unit chief Ashwani Kumar, will represent the saffron party.

Cheema alleged that two “false FIRs” have been registered on August 20 and 21 against SAD leaders. While first FIR named Sucha Singh langah, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Sukhbir Singh Walha, Des Raj Dhugga, besides other 250 people, the second one is filed against langah, Sekhwan, Master Gurnam Singh, Kawalpreet Singh, Parmbir Singh, Gurinder Singh, Iqbal Singh laddi, among 250 others.

“All these leaders have been booked on the direction of ruling Congress party as a deep rooted conspiracy so as to arrest these leaders at the time of election campaign for Gurdaspur Parliament Bye Election. All the leaders simply accompanied the Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to Gurdawara Chhota Ghallughara on the day of sacrilege of Gurdawara Sahib by the president of Congress-supported management committee of the Gurdwara,” alleged Cheema.

“The delegation will apprise the Commission of the ulterior motives of the ruling Congress party which has got false cases registered against Akali leaders, so as to keep them away from election campaign by arresting them during campaign,” he claimed.

Cheema said that all facts will be brought in to the notice of CEC and a written memorandum will also be submitted jointly by both the parties.

“We will demand an independent inquiry by the CEC and immediate cancellation of both the FIRs as well as action against the officers who have registered false FIRs against the Akali leaders in malafide manner to please their political bosses,” he said.

He added that the delegation would also demand immediate transfer of all erring officers outside the Gurdaspur Parliament Constituency for conduct of free and fair election.
