'SAD-BJP hat-trick in 2017 polls need of the hour'

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Thursday said that the hat-trick of SAD-BJP alliance in 2017 Assembly polls is the need of the hour to ensure that the pace of development is not slackened because the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have adopted an anti-Punjab posture and the leaders of these parties would put an end to the developmental story and destroy Punjab.

He said that Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress regime did not account for a single progress oriented project worth remembering during its entire tenure of five years.

Addressing a series of meetings, he took on AAP and its convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and said that AAP leaders are totally ignorant of the social, political and cultural scenario of Punjab and it is a band of anti-religious people who are hell bent upon vitiating the hard earned peace of the state.

He also brought to fore that whereas AAP leaders are accused of sacrilege of religious texts, they have also backstabbed the Punjabi’s on SYl and whole lot of other issues.

Earlier, addressing a function to distribute financial benefits worth Rs 3.25 crore to 2,080 beneficiaries, Punjab Deputy chief minister Sukhbir said that the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has implemented a lot of welfare-centric plans for the construction workers.

“The Board has evolved a ‘Balri Janam Tohfa Scheme’ in accordance with which an FDR worth Rs 51,000 would be made at the birth of a girl child and the same would be encashed during the time of her marriage. Similarly, under the General Surgery Scheme for injury treatment, the amount of monetary benefit has been increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000. Under Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna, 1.32 lakh cards of the construction workers have been made,” he said.

Sukhbir also announced widening of Malout to Ferozepur road via Sri Muktsar Sahib saying that all major cities of the state are being connected with four and six laned roads. He expressed strong hope that this development of infrastructure would take Punjab to further heights of development and glory.

Welcoming the passage of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Thursday said that the GST system of taxation would not only spell golden days for industrial and commercial sectors in the country but the common masses also would get respite from various kinds of taxes.

“This would give impetus to the economic progress and generation of new avenues of employment,” he said.

He also said that the main contest during 2017 polls would be between SAD-BJP and Congress while AAP is sure to be languishing at third position.
