The BJP-SAD has decided to protest against Congress for the imposition of house tax in the city. A day after Administrator’s nod to imposition of house tax in the city, the BJP and SAD councillors on Tuesday condemned the decision of Congress ruled Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh of imposing house tax.
A meeting of BJP councillors and senior leaders were called on Tuesday where it was decided that on June 23, all councillors of BJP and SAD will join the protest alongwith their
supporters in large numbers against the undemocratic
decision of Congress ruled MCC of passing the House Tax Bill without any discussion in house.
BJP councillor Arun Sood said that Congress in their election manifesto of MCC elections had promised that they will not impose house tax and even Subhash Chawla on his election as Mayor of MCC on January 1, 2013 had also announced that their would be no imposition of house tax during his tenure as Mayor but the Congress had betrayed the faith of the people of Chandigarh.
He further said that house tax agenda was brought by the nominated councillors which was supported by the Congress councillors and the bill was passed despite the opposition of BJP councilors without any discussion on the bill in the house.
The BJP councillors said that the Congress had stated a bundle of lies by saying that the Municipal Corporation would be receiving a grant from the Central Government in lieu of imposing of house tax.
“Congress Mayor, Congress councillors and nominated councillors had made a false promise with the city residents in which it is said that a house tax at the meager amount of Rs1/per sq. yard is to be imposed whereas in reality the Administration had already made it clear that the rate of House Tax will be revised at the end of the three months after its imposition. Befitting reply to Congress party would be given by the people of Chandigarh in the forthcoming elections,” they said.
