The SAD-BJP combine on Thursday accused the Punjab Police for torturing its workers by illegally detaining them. The combine even accused the state police force of even forcing their workers to stay away from the election process.
The allegations to this effect were made by a delegation of SAD-BJP combine, led by BJP district president Ravinder Arora and SAD’s district president Ranjit Singh Dhillon, after meeting the State Election Commissioner.
The delegation alleged that the District Election Officers, responsible for conducting elections to ludhiana Municipal Corporation and other councils on February 24, is working as a Congress worker.
Accusing election officials of murdering the democracy, they said that in case the election commission failed to initiate any action against them, “we would take our protest to streets from tomorrow”.
Already, Aam Aadmi Party’s state unit president Bhagwant Mann had demanded videography of the MC poll process besides declaring the city as a ‘sensitive zone’, and regularly monitoring the polls by CCTV cameras.
