SAD asks Captain to junk Justice Ranjit Singh Panel

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday asked Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to junk Justice (retd) Ranjit Singh Commission immediately as it had lost its credibility after he had made it clear that it would be used to implicate former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Making it clear that the Akali Dal would resist any attempt by Capt Amarinder to deliver “kangaroo court justice” against five-time Chief Minister Badal, the party said that Justice Ranjit Commission had lost its credibility completely after Capt Amarinder’s utterances.

“It is clear that Justice Ranjit does not have clean hands. He cannot be expected to come out with a fair verdict. The Commission should be winded up immediately,” senior SAD leader and MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said.

He said that the very fact that Justice Ranjit had been chosen to head the Commission to look into the incidents of sacrilege well knowing that he was a known Akali baiter was indicative of the real motives of the Congress government and Capt Amarinder Singh.

“It is also well known that Justice Ranjit and Amarinder are drinking buddies. That is why Amarinder is confident that the retired judge will deliver a tailor-made recommendation to suit his political needs,” he added.

Maintaining that in the given circumstances any finding of Justice Ranjit would have no meaning, Dhindsa said: “Justice Ranjit has a known history of mingling with Congress leaders. He is also a close relative of former Congressman Sukhpal Khaira...Chief Minister has now conveniently made him head of a Commission to launch a vendetta against SAD.”

“This is being done to divert public attention from abysmal failure of the Congress government on all fronts. The people are asking why Amarinder is failing to deliver on any of his promises be it loan waiver, unemployment allowance or augmentation of social welfare benefits. Since Amarinder has no answer to any of these questions he is resorting to wild allegations against Badal Sahab,” he added.

Asking the government to do away with the Ranjit Singh Commission, Dhindsa said that it should also simultaneously ask the CBI to expedite its investigations into the cases of sacrilege so that the real culprits are brought before the people.
