SAD accuses Cong of ‘hijacking’ panchayat polls

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday accused that the Congress regime was hell bent on murdering democracy by creating all types of hurdles for the rival candidates.

“Many senior officers, concerned with the polls, remained absent from their offices creating problems for filing nominations. On the other hand, the officers of the Rural Development Department camped in the houses of Congress MLAs to facilitate the nominations of the Congress candidates,” alleged SAD senior vice-president Daljeet Singh Cheema.

Disturbed over the ruling party’s action, the activists of SAD-BJP had to protest in many parts of the state, said Cheema.

“This is despite the fact that the SAD had brought the acts of commission and omission of the concerned officers. Of the 13 complaints brought to the notice of the commission, corrective measures were taken in three cases,” he said.

Cheema said that since the situation is turning from bad to worse, “another letter has been sent to the Commission on Thursday listing the incidents of discrimination and urging for strong and determined intervention to set right the poll process and ensure a level playing field for all”.

In his letter, Cheema has listed 16 more complaints from different districts and block samitis and also the pictures of deserted offices of the tehsildars and Block Development Officers.
