SAD: Brahmpura given preferential treatment, Ajnala Badals’ favourite

Published on:

The decision to expel Brahmpura and Ajnala along with their sons — Ravinder Pal Singh Brahmpura, and Amarpal Singh Boni, respectively — from the primary membership of the party was taken by the party’s core committee unanimously for “indulging in anti-party activities”.

“The party regretted that Brahampura and Dr Ajnala and their sons who are also members of the party have recently been acting in a manner which showed utter insensitivity and disregard for the immense respect and the liberal and magnanimous treatment extended to them by the party leaders, Parkash Singh Badal and the party president Sukhbir Badal,” said party spokesperson Harcharan Bains.

Bains said that the core committee felt that Badal and Sukhbir displayed “extraordinary patience, humility and tolerance even in the face of utterly unwarranted personal attacks against them and against the party by these leaders who had benefited immensely by the large-heartedness of the two leaders”.

It was pointed that Brahampura was always extended “preferential treatment over every other leader of the State”, especially of his own region. “He twice remained Minister in the Akali Governments, a legislator for four times apart from holding the most senior posts in the party next only to Parkash Singh Badal and the party president,” the committee noted.

The party pointed that as SAD’s senior leaders, both Brahampura and Ajnala were privy to and part of every decision that the party took in the past, including while the party was in government in Punjab. “Brahmpura has been issuing statements against the party on the issue of sacrilege, forgetting that he had himself forced the party leadership to allot a ticket to his son Ravinder Singh Brahmpura to contest as legislative assembly candidate on the Akali ticket when the Congress leader Ramanjit Singh Sikki had resigned and vacated his seat on the issue of sacrilege,” the committee added.

It was added that Brahmpura got his nephew, Alwinder Pal Singh Pakhoke, elevated as commissioner in the Punjab Information Commission by the same Government which he is criticising today.

Core Committee further added that Dr Ajnala always remained Badals’ personal favourite, and not only got the party ticket repeatedly for the Vidhan Sabha but was even elevated to the prestigious position as MP.

“Both these leaders utterly disregarded the humility, patience and large-heartedness showed by the party patriarch and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and by SAD president Sukhbir Badal,” noted the core panel adding that indiscipline against the party could not be tolerated at any cost.
