Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar on Thursday said that hefty compensation of over Rs1,000 crore would be given to affected farmers for their crop loss due to recent untimely rains and hailstorm in the State.

The State Government is maintaining complete transparency in assessment exercise to check crop damage and the compensation amount of Rs1,000 to be given would be about 10 times higher as against compensation of Rs123 crore given by previous Government for crop loss due to drought in the year 2014, said the Chief Minister, while addressing a public meeting at Kalka on Thursday.

The farmers in Haryana had suffered a heavy loss in the month of March and again in first week of April due to hailstorm and rains.

Keeping in view the plight of the farmers, the Government had immediately ordered special assessment exercise to check the crop loss which would be completed by April 15, said Khattar.

He assured that complete amount of compensation would be given to affected farmers within a month after the completion of assessment exercise.

He said that the State Government has already announced to give increased amount of compensation per acre to farmers. He said that farmers would now get compensation at the rate of Rs12,000 per acre and Rs10,000 per acre, in case of 76 to 100 per cent loss to wheat and mustard crops, respectively as against Rs10,000 and Rs7500 given earlier.

Similarly, the rate of compensation in case of damage of 50 to 75 per cent to wheat has been increased to Rs9,500 per acre instead of Rs7500, and for mustard, Rs7,000 per acre as against Rs5000 per acre.

In case of damage of 25 to 50 per cent, the compensation at the rate of Rs7,000 would be given for wheat, and Rs5,500 for mustard crop, he said.

Taking a dig at previous Congress led Haryana Government, the Chief Minister said that earlier, the farmers used to get Rs10, Rs20 and Rs50 as compensation, but now the present Government has decided that the minimum cheque for compensation would be of Rs500.

He said that State Government has prepared schemes for irrigation purposes and would also promote micro-irrigation system. The Government had also decided to release 10,000 electricity connections for tubewells which were pending upto March 31, 2012. So far, electricity connections have been released upto year 2011.

Manohar lal also urged the people not to indulge in corruption. The Government is committed to break the politician-officer-employees nexus for graft. Those who remained in power earlier had ensured welfare of their own, relatives and their friends, he said.

Speaking at the public meeting, the Chief Minister also announced to set up a college at Raipur Rani, grant of Rs1.05 crore for stadia of Kalka college and construction of dam at 20 locations already identified at Morni for irrigation purpose.

He said that Morni and Raipur Rani had already been declared industrial backward. On the demand of sub division status to Raipur Rani, the Chief Minister said that State Government had constituted a committee comprising three ministers which is going to examine such issues in entire State.
