Rift in Haryana Congress

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has opened a front against PCC chief Ashok Tanwar and ClP leader Kiran Choudhry in the State with his decision to launch an agitation against the BJP Government without consulting the party. Amid reports of the rift with Hooda, Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar on Monday said there has not been any discussion with Hooda on his proposed 'Jan Sampark' programme against the BJP Government in the State.

"So far, there has not been any consultation (on the 'Jan Sampark Yatra') and if consultation takes place and if the programme is in the interest of the party and the people, then the State Congress Committee will provide complete support to anyone whether he is a block level leader, State leader or a national leader," Tanwar said here. The State Congress chief, at the conclusion of the three-day brainstorming session with party leaders, was asked to respond to Hooda's proposed 'Jan Sampark' programme, which is scheduled to start from Jind in May.

Reports of rift between Hooda and Tanwar were gaining ground in the state after Hooda held a luncheon meeting at his new official residence here on Sunday which was being seen as a show of strength and was attended by several party leaders, including all 15 MlAs of the party. However, Tanwar did not attend Hooda's lunch, saying he was busy with the party meeting.

Asked about his relations with Hooda, Tanwar said he does not have "unfriendly" relations with anyone in the party. He also endorsed the view of Haryana Congress co-incharge Asha Kumari, who has described Hooda as "the tallest leader of the party" in Haryana. Tanwar also refuted reports of internal bickering within the party. "All is very well within the party," he claimed.
