BJP leaders of Amritsar on Monday raised a banner of revolt against sitting MP, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. led by Minister for local Bodies Anil Joshi, State general secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, State secretary Tarun Chug and various BJP municipal councilors along with their supporters and party activists, the disgruntled leaders raised a banner of revolt against Sidhu.
Addressing a Press conference here, they vehemently opposed giving ticket to the sitting MP, asking the Central BJP leadership to field senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, from the city. The local leaders claimed that if Jaitley contests from Amritsar parliamentary constituency, it would also help the Akali Dal-BJP alliance to bag all the 13 seats from Punjab, since Jaitley was also a star campaigner of the party and people of Punjab liked him.
Urging the party high command, local leaders said that Jaitley has deep family roots in Amritsar city and winning elections from here would be easy for the party with a big margin. Sidhu has won the Amritsar seat three times in a row, in 2004, 2006 during by-elections and third time in the 2009 general election. However, Sidhu, time and again has voiced protest against Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for willfully ignoring him. He added that all the developmental projects were scuttled or were put on hold.
