Asserting that the Congress Government has hurt the sentiments of lakhs of gau bhakts with its decision to discontinue free power to gaushalas (cow shelters) in Punjab, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday asked the review of the decision.
Party’s national secretary Tarun Chugh has urged the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh to withdraw the decision to discontinue free power to gaushalas in the State.
He said that 472 gaushalas in the state were getting free power as announced by the SAD-BJP government.
“Gaushalas are managed by the religious-minded people of Punjab with the help of social organizations and with the contribution made by charitable institutions and common people,” he said.
Chugh said that the Congress government had discontinued the scheme to provide free power to gaushalas even as it has decided to continue free power to farmers, SCs and OBCs which was not in the right spirit.
Calling upon the government to review its decision, he claimed that the SAD-BJP government had made a provision of Rs 4.72 crore in the annual budget of 2016-17.
Chugh urged the Chief Minister and the Power Minister to ask PSPCl (Punjab State Power Corporation limited) not to bill gaushalas and withdraw the bills already sent to various gaushalas.
He also urged the managements of all the 472 gaushalas not to pay the electricity bills served on them as the SAD-BJP Government had made a provision regarding free power.
