In a horrific incident, a retired colonel was injured while his wife was murdered after some assailants allegedly barged into their house at Sector 2 in Panchkula on Wednesday noon and attacked them with sharp objects, said Panchkula Police. A domestic help working at the house was also injured in the attack. The murder incident has sent shock waves in the city.

According to Panchkula Police, the incident took place at around 1.30 pm when three persons entered the house and attacked Colonel RK Sharma (retd), wife Sushila Sharma and the maid.  Police officials said the retired colonel and the domestic help were undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

As per preliminary investigation, the assailants, allegedly former servants hired by the family, used sharp-edged weapons to attack the victims.

Police sources said that it was around five to six months back that the colonel had fired a caretaker. He and his three friends allegedly intruded into the house, and started attacking the couple. When their present helper tried to inform the police, she was also hit with a sharp object.

Following the incident, Panchkula Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj and DCP Sumer Pratap Singh reached the spot. Kabiraj said the attackers allegedly took away some cash from the house. “We have obtained the CCTV footage and got vital clues,” he added.

He said as per initial investigation, the family had hired servants from an online website in the past. “The servants came back and attacked them with sharp-edged weapons,” he said.
