To ascertain whether documents related to property registrations were filed as per the prescribed norms of the state government, Punjab Revenue Department has hired two internationally renowned consultancies — Price Waterhouse Coopers and KPMG — to scrutinise these in 12 tehsils in last one year.
“The initiative is aimed at ensuring total transparency in Revenue Department working. In case of any wrongdoing, the concerned officer or official would have to face the music,” said the state Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday during an interaction with media persons.
He said that about 1.5 lakh property registrations would be scrutinized in this process. “The Department is exploring the possibility of automating revenue system to bring more efficiency. Integrated Computerization and Registration of Documents project (RoD) has already been started in Mohali, Jalandhar and Nakodar,” he added.
Majithia said that with the operationalization of 161 computerized Fard Kendras covering 12683 villages out of 13001 total villages of the state, the landowners were now just a click away from their land records. He added that these Fard Kendras have been providing on an average 2.35 lakh Fards per month and the remaining six Fard Kendras would be soon set up at newly created six sub-tehsils.
“As per the requirement, the number of Sub-Registrar office would be enhanced in major cities like Jalandhar, ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, Bathinda and Mohali and we are fully committed to provide world class infrastructure and facilities at registration offices to ensure comfort of the visitors as this Department is the major source of revenue generation in the State,” he added.
