Haryana Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma on Tuesday directed the Department concerned to ensure that reflecting tapes are pasted on the horns of stray animals roaming the streets to avoid road accidents due to these animals.

The Minister was presiding over a meeting of the State Road Safety Council here at Haryana Niwas.

He said that in a bid to decline the number of road accidents, along with construction of roads, the officers concerned should also ensure safety standards

While giving directions regarding the present foggy weather, Sharma said that the concerned Department should ensure that proper marking on roads is done on priority basis. Besides this, reflectors and reflecting tapes are also pasted on vehicles like tractors and trolleys, he said.

The Minister further said that the responsibility of the contractor should also be fixed for the duration for which the contract has been made for the construction of a road so that the contractor should repair the damaged road within that time period fixed for the construction of that road.

At the meeting, the officers of all departments were directed to set a deadline for completion of their works.

The Minister said that all the departments should construct at least 5 km model roads in every district with 100 percent road safety standards.

He also said that these model roads should be constructed in the accident prone areas. He also directed that departments should set their targets at the district level too.

The officers should chalk out a plan to implement Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations. Under this, training is also required for providing information about these Regulations to officers of XEN and JE rank at the district level so that road safety standards should be followed during the construction of roads, he added.

During the meeting, all departments have been directed to conduct a 100 percent audit. All the concerned departments have also been asked to appoint an officer in the lead agency at state level who could work full time.
