Haryana on Thursday received 2,14,000 additional doses of Covishield Covid-19 vaccine for the second dosage to be administered 28 days after the first inoculation, said State National Health Mission (NHM) director Dr VK Bansal. He said that as per norms, the two Covid-19 vaccines — Covishield and Covaxin — are administered in two doses with an interval of 28 days in between.
Talking to ‘The Pioneer’ over the phone, Bansal said, “The second consignment of the Covid-19 vaccine provided by the Union Government to Haryana arrived on Thursday. The State has received nearly 2,14,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. The stock is sufficient enough to easily conduct the vaccination drive in all the districts like Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar among others having maximum front-line health care workforce. As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the district-wise allocation of the vaccine will be done.”
Earlier this week, the State got 240,000 doses of Serum Institute’s Covishield, out of which 44,950 doses were allocated for Gurugram. It also received 4,200 doses of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. Chief Medical Officers (CMO) were directed to ensure that the second dose of vaccine is kept safe for the beneficiaries, he added.
Another health official said that according to the Government data, at least 1,820 were for central healthcare workers and as many as 43,070 were for workers under Haryana government. At least 60 doses were meant for those under Armed Force Medical Services. As per the state directive, the target is that by the time the first round is over, vaccine beneficiaries who got the inoculation in the first week can get the second dose on time until the next batch of vaccine arrives, he added.
Meanwhile, Haryana on Thursday administered the first dose to another 15,451 healthcare workers, the fifth day of the ongoing inoculation drive at different immunization sites in all 22 districts in the State. No serious adverse events have been reported so far from any parts of the State after immunization. So far 252 vaccine sessions have been held in the State and Covishield vaccine shots have been given to 45, 676 beneficiaries since the inoculation drive started, NHM director added.
