Following Haryana senior Minister Anil Vij’s demand of providing compensation and a job to the dera followers who died in police firing during the incident of arson and violence on August 25, Chief Minister Manohar lal on Friday said the matter related to dera violence incident is sub judice and the Government will act as per Court’s orders.
The court will decide if any compensation has to be given in this case...Any compensation would be given only as per court orders, said the Chief Minister while talking to the mediapersons at Panchkula near here.
He added that the High Court had earlier issued directions that the damage caused during the violence after the delivery of verdict by the CBI court in Panchkula in a case concerning Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, be compensated from the Dera property.
Citing the incident of Jat agitation 2016 during which 31 people had died in police firing and Government had announced to pay Rs 10 lakh and a Government job to the kin of those killed in the violent quota protest, Haryana Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij has demanded that compensation and a Government job should be given to the dera followers who died in a similar incident of arson and violence on August 25.
Vij had also said the State Government could not adopt separate rules and discriminate by providing compensation in one case and not in another similar incident.
Reacting on Vij’s demand, Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar on Friday said compensation should be given to the innocent people who died in the violence on August 25. On humanitarian grounds, innocent people who died in police firing should be given compensation, he added.
The Khattar Government drew flak from all quarters for mishandling the situation on August 25, which led to the large-scale violence in Panchkula within few hours in the aftermath of CBI court’s verdict against Ram Rahim. While atleast 35 people were killed in Panchkula, six others had died in Sirsa.
The deaths took place in firing by security forces on the dera sect followers, who ran amok setting on fire government and private property as well as vehicles in Panchkula and Sirsa.
Notably, a total of 31 persons had died while more than 300 persons had sustained injuries including personnel belonging to police and other security forces during last year violent Jat agitation.
Following this, the BJP led State Government had promised to pay Rs 10 lakh and give a government job to the kin of those killed in the quota agitation.
