Gurdaspur Police on Thursday registered a rape case against controversial Punjab Police officer Salwinder Singh, who was also mired in a controversy over January 1 Pathankot air base attack.
The case was registered after the complainant approached the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a sangat darshan programme. Police teams have been dispatched to various places to nab the SP who is on the run.
Earlier, the sexual harassment committee of the Punjab Police had summoned Salwinder to respond to allegations levelled against him by five women cops.
He had been asked to appear before IG Gurpreet Deo, who heads the committee, on August 5. He was summoned after the alleged victims stood by their complaint. They deposed before the committee last month and submitted a signed statement reiterating their allegations.
Five women cops posted at the Gurdaspur police headquarters had accused Salwinder of harassing them — the allegations which he had denied categorically.
Sources said that a written copy of the statement of the alleged victims was given to the SP, asking him to respond to it.
