Ramesh Sood, president Jogindernar, Beopar Mandal for the last several years, died after a brief illness earlier this week. He was 73. He is survived by six daughters and wife. For last decade he was engaged in social service mitigating the pangs of the needy and the poor.
He conceived and executed the best cremation ground in the state on the lush green panoramic site on the bank of river Bazgar, a tributary of Beas, at an estimated cos of Rs 1 crore collected by donations including his own contribution of about Rs 25 lakhs. The town plunged into grief by his sudden demise. Thousands of people from cluster of villages around the town rushed to attend his cremation.
Women of the town presented a pathetic scene when his five daughters lifted the bier to cremation ground and the eldest daughter Pooja Sood lit the funeral pyre. With moist eyes many murmured the famous couplet of Kabir, “Jab tum aie sansar me Jag hansa tum Roe, aise karni kar chalo tum hanso jag roe”.
