Railgate: Chaos over Bansal at MCC meet

Published on:

The House meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MCC) on Friday resembled a mini battlefield with the elected representatives fighting each other physically as soon as the name of former Railway Minister and local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal was mentioned in the House.

Trying to take mileage of the Railgate,  members of BJP, SAD and BSP created unprecedented ruckus asked that a resolution banning the entry of Bansal be brought in the House. Being the local MP, he is an ex-officio member of the House and often participates in the proceedings when he is in the city.

As soon as the meeting started, the councillors of Opposition parties started raising slogans against the former Railway Minister and the Congress party. Following sloganeering, the Mayor initially adjourned the House for fifteen minutes. The councillors also practically turned physical as they threw the objects around them at each other.

BSP member Jannat Jahan ul Haq lodged a complained to Chandigarh Police alleging that she was manhandled in the meeting. The police have registered a DDR and further investigation is under progress.

The councillors fought each other after the Opposition members brought ‘Table agenda’ in the meeting in relation with the ‘railgate’ and demanded the resignation of Bansal from Parliament. Opposition leaders further demanded that Bansal should also not be allowed to enter the house till the investigation in Railgate is complete.

When the Mayor refused it, BJP members started raising slogans against Bansal which was strongly opposed by Congress leaders.
