Taking a dig at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his visit to Punjab, the Union Rural Development Minister, Birender Singh on Friday said that one cannot become a sympathiser of farmers by travelling in a train for two days.

The value of their hard work of farmers cannot be measured like this, said Birender while talking to the media persons after disbursement of compensation amount to the rain and hail-hit farmers in Rohtak.

Rahul Gandhi had travelled in a general compartment of the Nanded-Amritsar Sachkhand express from Delhi to reach Ambala in Haryana, bordering Punjab, on Tuesday evening, from where he drove to visit Sirhind grain market in Fatehgarh Sahib district.

Meanwhile, Birender Singh said that it is for the first time in the history of Haryana that more than Rs1,100 crore would be disbursed on account of crop loss among the farmers. Earlier, any Government of any political party had never given such unprecedented amount of compensation to them.
