Rahul 'misfit' for post of PM: Badal

Published on:

Amidst speculation of Congress putting a stamp of approval on Rahul Gandhi’s name for its prime ministerial candidate in January’s AICC meeting, the Badals in Punjab have dubbed him as “inexperienced” and “immature” politician.

The father-son duo has maintained that the Gandhi scion is no match to the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate and Guajarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Terming Rahul Gandhi as an “inexperienced and immature political leader”, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that he was a complete ‘misfit’ for the coveted post of Prime Minister.

Interacting with mediapersons after laying the foundation stone of Punjab Institute of Technology on Tuesday, Badal said: “Rahul Gandhi is incapable of running the affairs of the Union Government…The country would be ruined if an inexperienced person like him becomes its Prime Minister.”

Equating him with a novice driver, he said that the country’s bus would certainly topple if a person like the ‘Nehru-Gandhi scion’ was driving it. “Congress national vice-president hardly has any administrative experience as he had been neither a minister nor held any other public office but unfortunately in dearth of any other capable leader, the sycophant Congress leaders are day-dreaming to make him the Prime Minister,” he added.

Badal questioned, “How can a person who is not even aware of the basics of governance hold the coveted office of Prime Minister.”

Showering praises on Modi, the Chief Minister said that it was writing on the wall that Gujarat Chief Minister would become the next Prime Minister, “as the countrymen are eagerly waiting to elect an able and efficient administrator like him for this coveted post”.

Maintaining that there was hardly any comparison between Modi and Rahul Gandhi, he said: “Both the leaders are poles apart from each other as the former is an experienced leader while the latter is totally ignorant of public life.”

Ridiculing Congress’ proposed plan of announcing Rahul Gandhi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, SAD chief and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said that it is a fact that Congress had to face massive debacles in those states where Rahul Gandhi canvassed for the party candidates.

Responding to media queries after presiding over Sangat Darshan program at lehra Mohabbat, Sukhbir said that Congress should announce Rahul Gandhi as PM candidate as early as possible “since this decision of Congress Party would prove last nail in its coffin in ensuing Parliament elections”.

“Rahul is nothing in comparison to Narendra Modi before his long political, administrative, governance experience and development vision. NDA is keen to hear the name of Rahul Gandhi as prime ministerial candidate of Congress, so Congress should come with the announcement,” he added.
