Rahul Gandhi wants action against big fish in drugs trade

Published on:

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday put his own government in dock even though he blamed the BJP-led Central Government for not acting against the “big fish” involved in the drug trade in Punjab.

Though Rahul patted the back of Congress-led State Government for “breaking the back of drug trade in the state”, the Congress chief indirectly and unintentionally pinpointed at the failure of the State Government for not acting against those involved in drug cases — an underlying sentiment amidst the state Congress leaders.

Rahul found fault with the Centre for not catching the big fish of the drug mafia that had ruined the Punjabi youth. “(Union Finance Minister Arun) Jaitley had all the enforcement agencies at his disposal,” he said.

He said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) were working under the control of the Prime Minister and he should direct them to catch the big fish of the drugs mafia and those who ruined Punjab.

“When I said that Punjab has a drug problem, I was ridiculed. The then Akali Dal government said that I was lying. The current Congress government has broken the back of drug trade in Punjab, and this is a matter of great satisfaction that youth are once again looking towards the future with hope,” he said while addressing the party’s ‘Mission 13’ rally at Moga.

Sounding the Lok Sabha poll bugle in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi and the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh launched a scathing attack on the BJP and its ally, SAD, while exuding confidence of a total wipe-out of both the parties in the coming elections.

Even as Captain Amarinder Singh reiterated his Mission 13 to give all the 13 LS seats in Punjab to Rahul, whom he declared the next Prime Minister of the country.

Capt Amarinder claimed that all promises made by the Congress party before polls are being fulfilled especially for farmers and landless. “We are creating jobs for youths, as an educated youth gets frustrated after not getting jobs and then he takes the wrong path,” he said.

RAGA IS NEXT PM OF INDIA: CAPT

All Congress leaders pitched for the party’s national president Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister of the country.

“We will win all 13 seats in Punjab but the current wave in the country suggests that Rahul Gandhi is the next PM of India,” said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Earlier, Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar also declared to form the Congress government at the Centre under Rahul’s leadership.

Lambasting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for forcing the country into war for political gains, Jakhar lauded Capt Amarinder for building confidence amongst the people in an atmosphere of war hysteria created by war mongers.

“Capt Amarinder stood with border residents in their hour of need...The nation needs statesmen like him. The people of this nation would throw the present Modi regime and would install the Congress Government under Rahul Gandhi's leadership,” he said.
