Congress national president Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Monday called on Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to enquire about his health, after he failed to attend an event at Mohali.

“I regret not being able to attend the function, as I've been advised bed rest by the doctors,” tweeted Capt Amarinder.

After suffering from viral fever past week, the Chief Minister had been advised rest at home for 48 hours by the doctors at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).

Rahul and Manmohan Singh, who were in Mohali, adjoining Chandigarh, for the re-launch of Hindi newspaper 'Navjivan', left for New Delhi after meeting Capt Amarinder.

Capt Amarinder, 76, underwent some routine medical tests at PGIMER on Sunday as a follow-up on the viral illness he suffered last week. Doctors at the institute said that all the tests were clean and the Chief Minister was found to be suffering from slight weakness as a result of the earlier bout of viral fever.

Due to Capt Amarinder’s ill-health and also considering Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s throat problem, the Monday’s cabinet meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
