In full steam to gear up for 2017 Punjab polls, Congress party’s campaign would get further boost with the party’s youth icon Rahul Gandhi addressing a mega rally in October.
Though the date for the rally is yet to be decided as per the convenience of congress national vice-president, Moga has been selected as the venue for the mega event.
“The party is going to hold a mega rally at Moga soon, and Rahul Gandhi will be addressing the proposed rally,” said the state party president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday.
He said that the party is targeting a gathering of around five lakh.
“The rally is likely to be held in the first week of October, but the date will be finalised according to the convenience of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
The former Chief Minister also told that not only Rahul but Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will also visit Punjab for preparation for the 2017 polls.
Punjab Congress, it seems, has taken a cue from the Aam Aadmi Party’s successful Kisan Rally at Bagha Purana, where it had also released its manifesto for the farmers and farm labourers.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has also chalked out the travel plan of many of its senior leaders as a part of the party’s ‘Congress liao, Punjab bachao’ campaign.
As many as 40 senior leaders, including the likes of former Union Minister Preneet Kaur, former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, senior leader and MlA Sunil Jakhar, party MPs, among others, would travel across the State to reach out to the people.
“These leaders will travel in a group of three to four in a specially designed mini buses named ‘Punjab Congress Express’,” said a senior party leader, adding that the aim is to reach out to more than 1.5 crore people through nukkad meetings at different points in various constituencies.
Sangrur team will be led by Bhattal while Preneet Kaur will lead Patiala team, ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu will lead ludhiana and Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh will lead Jalandhar among the 13 teams formed as per 13 lok Sabha constituencies.
The team for Amritsar, a constituency represented by Capt Amarinder, would be covered by party’s local MlAs Om Parkash Soni, Dr Raj Kumar Verka, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, along with his close aide Sukhjinder Raj Singh lalli.
Congress legislative Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi would lead Anandpur Sahib team, along with Rana Kanwarpal and Satnam Singh Kainth. Former Finance Minister and chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s estranged nephew Manpreet Singh Badal would cover Bathinda along with Nirmal Singh Nimma and Ajaib Singh Bhatti.

Ferozepur team would be led by Jakhar along with Raja Amarinder Singh Warring, Hans Raj Josan and Inderjit Singh Zira. Party MlAs Ashwani Sekhri, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa would see Gurdaspur.
