Quota row: Jats give two months ultimatum to Haryana Govt

Published on:

The Jat community on Sunday gave two months ultimatum to the BJP led Haryana Government for implementation of law to provide reservation to the Jats.

Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, chief Yashpal Malik, while speaking at a ‘Bhaichara rally’ held in Jhajjar said that the State Government should compile data on various communities in Haryana, submit its report and give reservation to Jats in next two months.

The Jat leader said that Punjab and Haryana Court has put reservation law implementation on hold till the quantum of reservation is finalized in Haryana to keep the quota within the limit mandated by the Supreme Court. So, the State Government should ensure to submit its report to the HC at the earliest, he said.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had in May 2016 stayed the Haryana Government’s decision to grant reservation to Jats and five other communities in jobs and educational institutions under the newly created backward class ‘C’ category.

Malik, who had spearheaded the agitation in support of the Jat reservation demand in 2016 and even this year in Haryana, said that the BJP should also fulfill its promises made to the Jat community during a meeting held on March 19 this year.
