The Manohar lal Khattar Government has once again come under attack from Jat community for failing to provide reservation.
Jat leaders on Tuesday held protest outside Chief Minister’s residence here and also announced to organise a rally on September 13 to put forth their demands.
Talking to the mediaperons, Jat leaders said that the State Government has failed to keep its promises to provide reservation to the Jat community. The Government has also failed to put a strong case for reservation in the High Court, alleged the Jat leaders.
The Government should make sincere efforts to get the stay on Jat reservation vacated by Punjab and Haryana High Court and notification regarding “creamy layer” should be issued soon, they said.
The Jats are also demanding release of “innocent youths” arrested during the quota stir held earlier in February, adequate compensation and job to next of kin of those who lost their lives in the stir. They have also demanded withdrawal of cases against protesters during the previous and current phase of agitation.
The leaders also threatened to launch another agitation against the State Government.
While the Jat agitation during June had remained peaceful in Haryana, the state had seen the worst violence in its five decades of existence during Jat quota protest held in February. As many as 30 persons were killed, 320 others injured and property worth crores was destroyed during the February’s agitation.
After the February’s Jat agitation, which had paralysed normal life in Haryana and affected Delhi and other neighbouring states too, the State Government had brought in a law to provide reservation for Jats and five other communities under a newly carved Backward Classes (C) category. However, the High Court had stayed it, acting on a public interest litigation.
The opposition, INlD and Congress have also announced to raise the issue of Jat reservation in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Haryana Assembly.
