PUTIA objects Pb Govt's decision on PTU Board of Governors

Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) on Monday strongly objected to the Punjab Government’s decision on formation of Board of Governors of the Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. The PUTIA, in its meeting under its president Dr JS Dhaliwal, objected that it was not given representation in governing bodies of PTU.

The Association maintained that a delegation of PUTIA will meet Punjab Government on this issue which would request the Government to appoint representatives from PUTIA in Board of Governors for decision making. “There are more than 400 unaided technical colleges in Punjab. The problems of students, staff and management are not getting resolved due to non representation of PUTIA as the governing bodies,” said PUTIA vice president Anshu Kataria.

Kataria said that despite of the fact that 95 percent of the education is in hands of private players, they still do not have any say in PTU. Private institutions in Punjab are facing hardships which could not be highlighted due to non representation in PTU, he said. Dhaliwal said that PUTIA had strongly demanded from the Chief Minister for the formation of Board of Governors last year in the technical education summit, “but the Government has not considered PUTIA’s request while making the autonomy in Board of Governors.”
