Panjab University Students’ Union on Thursday extended its support to the Congress party for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State. The support came on the condition that the Congress, after forming the Government, will fulfil its financial commitments towards the University, which the Akalis have failed since 2008.
PUSU office bearers, including president Nishant Kaushal, vice-president Avneet Kaur, secretary Ashiq Mohammad and joint secretary Amit Kaushik, maintained that they had high expectations from Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh and wanted him to become the Chief Minister.
They said that their support to the Congress was conditional and they wanted the party Government to release the grant to the Panjab University that Punjab Government owes to it for last several years.
They said that the Punjab Government owed about Rs 250 crores to the University and the amount was piling up.
Thanking the PUSU for its support, Capt Amarinder promised that his Government will ensure that the PU gets all the grants due to it from the Punjab Government.
