Punjab's water table depleting: Capt

Published on:

Underlining that Punjab’s water table is depleting very fast, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday stressed on the need to diversify the crop pattern from the traditional wheat-paddy cycle.

Capt Amarinder, addressing a function after inaugurating ITC Rs 1,500 crore project of integrated food manufacturing and logistics facility at Kapurthala, said that more ITC like units would be set up in the state to enhance the farmers’ income.

Reports say that Punjab’s water resources have been ruined not only by over exploitation of its underground water but also by pollution of its rivers and seasonal water channels.

Data from the Central Ground Water Board and other government agencies already made it clear that situation of underground water table is alarming.
