Punjab’s ‘holy city’ is all set to fly high as five major airlines are preparing to begin their flights at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport at Amritsar.
Etihad, British, Emirates, Fly Dubai, and Sri lanka Airways have agreed to start direct flights from Amritsar.
Sharing the information, Congress MP from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that five major airlines companies can start their flights from Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport at the end of this year.
For the purpose, Thai Airways and Jet Airways have already completed their surveys, he said. Aujla made the claims after his meeting with Thai Airway’s North India sales manager Sunil Kumar and Jet Airway’s North India chief Kavita Joshi regarding the same.
“All the flaws that have been reported by airline companies at Amritsar airport will be corrected, and improved as per their needs, and this airport will be made suitable for international level flights,” said Aujla after the meeting.
He said that Thai and Jet Airways have assured that they are trying to launch direct flights to different countries by October-November.
“As of now, both airlines are facing shortage of planes…and they have assured that as soon as they get new aircrafts, they will start their flights from Amritsar,” he said.
At the same time, Aujla rued the uncooperative attitude of the Central Government. “The international companies are very eager to launch their new flights from Amritsar, but on the other hand, the Centre’s attitude is apathetic…I am making all efforts to provide facilities to the airport,” he added.
