Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday said that the Punjabis wanted the new Government to deliver on its promises and “the Congress should do so immediately instead of offering excuses to stave off implementation of poll commitments”.
Sukhbir, addressing a gathering as part of his thanksgiving visit to each constituency, said that the excuse of lack of funds was lame and would not cut ice with the people. “The promises were made after a detailed assessment and now the party cannot run away from their implementation,” he said.
He said that the SAD would support the Congress in this and would give it six months to implement its poll promises. “If the commitments are not implemented in this period, it will be clear that the party has befooled the people and did not have any intention of fulfilling its election manifesto,” he added.
Sukhbir said that the development which had occurred in Punjab during the last ten years was unprecedented. “From making the State power surplus to laying the most modern road network to establishing airports, the Government had done it all. However, the false and malicious propaganda unleashed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against the SAD-BJP alliance had damaged the latter's prospects and helped the Congress,” he said adding that there was no reason to despair.
The people always reward hard work in the end and will reward the SAD-BJP alliance government for the development done by it, he added.
Senior leader and MP Balwinder Singh Bhundur, speaking on the occasion, thanked the SAD president for lifting the spirits of Akali workers who would now work night and day to ensure a good performance in 2019 assembly elections.
