Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati will meet jailed labour activist Nodeep Kaur in Karnal Jail on February 15 (Monday).

The chairperson had taken up the matter with Haryana counterpart and urged to intervene in the matter, said an official spokesperson of the Commission on Friday.

Acting swiftly, the Haryana State Women Commission (HSWC) has issued written instruction to Director General, Jails, (Haryana) Selvaraj to ensure legal assistance under Section 3 (10), (1) (f) (k) of the Haryana State Women Commission Act-2012 to Nodeep Kaur, a resident of Giadarh village in Sri Muktsar district of Punjab besides ensuring the safety and security of the detainee.

Spokesperson said that HSWC chairperson has directed the Director General Jails to make all necessary arrangements for the meeting, scheduled at 12 noon on February 15, of Punjab State Women’s Commission chairperson and Nodeep Kaur.

The Director General has also been asked to submit the action taken report in this regard.

The development comes a day after the Punjab women panel had taken a “stern notice” of the Nodeep Kaur’s case, seeking a status report from Sonipat Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) by February 15.“Through a written communiqué, the SSP Sonipat has been directed to get the case of Nodeep Kaur investigated by a senior officer,” PSWC chairperson Manisha Gulati had stated, adding that the SSP has been asked to submit a detailed investigation report within five days, that is by February 15, 2021.

Gulati had said that after receiving the police report, the Commission would immediately take further action in the matter.
