Aiming to weed out the menace of corruption among Government servants, Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday placed its own four officials under suspension.
Those suspended include an Inspector, two Head Constables and a Constable for accepting bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh.
In the matter, a regular departmental enquiry has also been initiated against the accused police personnel who were posted at Vigilance Bureau Range at Ferozepur.
“The Bureau is committed to adopt zero tolerance policy towards all forms of corruption and any misconduct on the part of its own officials would not be tolerated at any cost during its drive against bribery,” said the Vigilance Bureau Chief Director-cum-ADGP BK Uppal.
Giving details, Uppal said that a corruption case was
registered against Forest Department Superintendent Shehjata Ram at Police Station Vigilance Bureau Ferozepur on October 26, 2016.
The complainant has submitted a written complaint stating that four vigilance officials had taken bribe amounting to Rs 1.50 lakh in lieu of favouring him in preparation of cancellation report in his case.
He added that on the basis of preliminary investigation, he has immediately taken disciplinary action and placed four Vigilance Bureau officials namely Inspector Kuldip Singh, Head Constable Charan Singh and Satnam Singh and Constable Navjeet Singh under suspension.
He added that SSP Vigilance Bureau Range, Ferozepur has also been asked to conduct a fact finding enquiry and recommend further action, if any, under the provisions of law.
“Bureau would ensure and maintain high ethical standards, integrity and honesty among its personnel in accordance with fundamental principles of service rules and legal system,” said Uppal while asking the public as well as all honest public servants to help the VB in its anti-corruption drive in the State and inform the Bureau on its toll free helpline 1800-1800-1000 from 8 am to 8 pm if any public servant demands bribe.
