Punjab to strictly maintain confidentiality in HIV-AIDS

The Punjab Government on Saturday made it clear that the confidentiality in HIV-AIDS programme should be strictly maintained. It was clarified that the name of any individual or the place of his or her residence should not be disclosed.

The directions were issued by the project director of Punjab State AIDS Control Society (PSACS) Hussan lal while presiding over an Interdepartmental Sensitization Workshop for Mainstreaming HIV held here at Parivaar Kalyaan Bhawan. The PSACS called for concerted efforts from all quarters for prevention of AIDS in the state, which is also grappling with the rise of drug menace.

“Health interventions alone cannot lead to prevention of HIV/AIDS, it requires concerted efforts from all organisations in public life through their work and programmes,” said PSACS Project Director Hussan lal. lal said that the prevalence of HIV among Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) in Punjab is three times as high as national prevalence due to sharing of needle and syringes which is posing a major challenge for the State.
