Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharnjit Singh Dhillon on Sunday declared that the routine water supply, which has been affected by the damage to the common service bank of the Rajasthan feeder and Sirhind Feeder, will be restored within three working days.

“The incident of damage to the common service bank was immediately brought to the notice of the authorities by the Baildar who was on surveillance duty last night. Had the officers of the department not vigilant there could have been a major devastation due the breach in the canal,” said Dhillon.

He reiterated that the department is working on war footing to restore the routine water course in the canals, and “the supply of potable drinking water has already been restored”.

Divulging details, Dhillon said that the underground soil of the bridge number 191 of Rajasthan Feeder near Faridkot was caved in which resulted in the damage to the common service bank.

“The repair is underway and 85 per cent of the work is completed,” he said.

The Minister said that though lining of the common service bank is very old but there is no apparent fear to the Faridkot city and any other area.
