Punjab Education Department on Tuesday decided to provide professional guidance to students from Class X to XII and help them to choose right career according to their aptitude. “It was felt that students, due to lack of guidance and counselling, get sucked in a career for which they do not have aptitude and they waste their education and life while pursuing wrong careers,” said State Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema. He said that while interacting with the students, he felt that students from Class X to XII need professional counsellors, who could determine their aptitude adopting scientific and psychological tools and guide them to choose a career for according to their aptitude and strength. Cheema said that counselling would be organised in all districts and first phase of counselling would be inaugurated by him in ludhiana on Wednesday. He appealed to the parents to take active interest in the counselling exercise and bring their wards for counselling. “Keeping in view greater rush during next three months, these centers would work in all district headquarters 24X7 and the district education officers (DEOs) have been asked to setup separate helpline district-wise to ensure easy access of every student to counselling students,” he said.
