launching a mission to resolve the problem of waterlogging in the State, the Punjab Government is preparing a comprehensive plan with the assistance of technical and irrigation professionals to permanently eliminate the ‘deadly’ crisis in Malwa region — primarily affecting the farmers badly on the economic front.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal, addressing the people at Dhippanwali village during Sangat Darshan on Wednesday, said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has already submitted a detailed report to the Planning Commission of India seeking Rs 3,327-crore package for providing relief to the State’s peasantry suffering from waterlogging. “The Chief Minister has also urged the Union Government to sanction the demanded relief package as early as possible,” he added.
‘Cong will be wiped out’
Regarding party’s preparations for the lok Sabha polls, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir said that the SAD-BJP combine fully geared up for the polls and the Congress would be wiped out from the political scene of Punjab after these polls.
Describing Assembly polls in Madya Paradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh as a “semifinal to the lok Sabha polls”, he said that the voters of the country were eagerly waiting “to teach a lesson to the Congress-led most corrupt, inefficient UPA government and the results of these polls would set the stage for the formation of NDA Government”.
Villages at par with cities
The Punjab Government was committed to make State’s villages at par with cities in the field of infrastructure and citizen services, said Sukhbir, adding that Rs 10,000 crore has already been sanctioned to provide 100 per cent sewerage and drinking water facilities in all 12,278 villages across the State. “In the initial stage in Fazilka district, 20 villages have been selected for provision of sewerage and drinking water facilities at a cost of Rs 30 crore, which would be extended to 50 villages next year,” he added.
