The Punjab Government has decided to prepare a blueprint for bringing technical advancements in its skill centres across the State. For the same, the State Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has directed the Department officials.
The direction came after Channi completed his four-day visit to the Centurion University of Technology and Management in Odisha.
Channi, along with other senior officials of the Technical Education Department including Technical Education secretary-cum-Punjab Skill Development Mission’s director KS Pannu, visited Odisha to study the advancement in skill development sector.
He said the State’s skill development centers would play a key role to fulfill the pre-poll promise of Capt Amarinder Singh led government to provide one job per family.
During his visit, Channi was very impressed to witness the Cafe Coffee Day lab helping in etiquette development for students, especially providing training to deaf and dumb students.
The Minister said the students are honing their skills with practical and hands-on approach in welding and furniture labs. “This practice would also be started in Punjab,” he added.
Channi also interacted with various students working in sponsored engineering labs.
He showed keen interest in the industry-sponsored projects, including the automobile labs set up by Ashok leyland, Yamaha, Hyundai, Schyneider electric, Godrej and BEMl etc.
Channi also visited varsity’s another venture, the Urban Micro Business Centre — which is a concept for an integrated approach to livelihood, skill and entrepreneurship with sustainable ideas that empower urban slum dwellers.
He desired that the venture be replicated in Punjab so that young manpower in the State could be trained in self-employment and industry-oriented courses.
As Centurion University has also offshore campus in Australia, tie-up would be beneficial for Punjab students willing to settle abroad.
