Punjab to launch drive to educate students against sexual exploitation

Published on:

Punjab Education Department will soon launch awareness campaign in schools to educate students against sexual offences. Under the campaign, the students will be educated about the laws formulated against such crimes.

The announcement was made by State Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Thursday after inaugurating one-day seminar on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) organised by RMSA at Manav Mangal School, Mohali.

Referring to the incident happened in a Government school at ludhiana, Cheema said that such offences were a blot on our society. “POCSO was formed to protect children from sexual offences but lack of awareness among people is the cause behind such offences.”

Cheema said that 280 education officers and teachers would be sensitised regarding offences against children and women. “The officials trained  would conduct awareness sessions at their concerned districts schools thereafter,” said Cheema.
