The State Government has decided to install close-circuit television cameras on all major roads to prevent road accidents.

Announcing this, Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday said: “If any person breaks rules or indulges into over speeding or rash driving, his activities would be automatically recorded in the CCTVs and the challan would be mailed to his address.”

Badal, addressing a function organised by Muslim community in Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, said that the State Government would soon launch a proper plan in this regard.

Giving a major thrust to the road infrastructure, he said that a major revamp in this regard is on the cards and the work on it has already begun.

“All major roads leading to major cities would be made four-laned soon,” he said adding that special emphasis would be given on overall development of both urban and rural areas. In an effort to woo the Muslim community, Sukhbir said that the members of Muslim community would be given due representation in all Government boards and corporations.

“Punjab Government would nominate a member from Gujjar community as director in Milkfed,” he said. During the function, he was also conferred with the title of ‘Fakhar-e-Punjab’ by Muslim community.
