Warning the lending firms violating the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) Fair Lending Practices Code, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday said that strict action would be taken in case any such case is brought to the Government’s notice. Cheema, issuing the warning while chairing the meeting of the Joint Front of Rural and Farm Labourer Unions, directed the Finance Department to report any such incident to the RBI, recommending strict action including the cancellation of the pan India license of such institutions. The directions came after the Joint Front apprised the Minister that many lending firms, including some microfinance firms, were resorting to pressure tactics and unfair recovery practices.
