To provide free and better health services to the State’s peasantry, the Punjab Government on Wednesday decided to extend by one year Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme for farmers starting from November 2016.
Under the farmer-friendly free health insurance scheme, 4.33 lakh farmers have been registered by the Punjab Mandi Board and Government has incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs 10.82 crore to provide the insurance cover, said the Government spokesperson.
Spokesperson informed that the installment for the annual insurance premium is paid by the concerned market committee and in case of the death of the policy holder, or amputation of limbs or complete disability, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh is given.
Besides, free medical treatment up to Rs 50,000 in a year is extended to all the members of the family of the farmer registered under this scheme.
Now, it has been decided by the Government to enter the names of the members of the family in the health card along with the head of the family, said the spokesperson while making an appeal to the farmers to contact the concerned Market Committees to get the names of their family members registered in order to avail maximum benefit of the scheme.
