Stating that the shooters from Punjab have earned plaudits big time at the international level, the state Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Tuesday announced to make the state “epicentre of shooting” as the sport has immense scope for talented Punjabis to earn laurels.
On the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directions, an amount of Rs six crore has been released for the transformation of the shooting ranges in the State.
The announcement was made by the Minister while taking stock of the facilities at the Mohali’s Phase VI shooting range. Hayer visited the 10-metre indoor air-conditioned range, apart from the 25 and 50 metres ranges and emphasized improving the infrastructure at the range so as to bring it in tune with the changing times.
The Minister also ascertained from the shooters as to what kind of facilities they need. The shooters shared their experiences and apprised the Minister about all the aspects. The Minister further said that the Chief Minister had personally met the shooters and it was on his instructions that the said amount was released.
At the same time, the Minister directed the sports officers to display the pictures of eminent shooters inside the range so as to make sure that the budding shooters can derive inspiration.
