Punjab State Scheduled Casts Commission has decided to sensitize the State Police about various provisions of the SC/ST Act.

Sharing the information, the Commission’s chairperson Tejinder Kaur said that the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Investigation Bureau, Gurpreet Deo appeared before the Commission on Friday in connection with a hearing of a case.

“During this meeting, discussions were held with regard to delinquency of police officers for not resolving the complaints filed by SCs as per the provisions of the SC Act. The issue of non-compliance of some clauses of SC Act like filing of challan within stipulated 60 days is of serious concern,” said Kaur.

She said that responding to apprehensions put forward by her, Deo assured the Commission that she would issue written directions to all the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to organize special training sessions for the district police in police lines to sensitize them about various provision of the SC/ST Act.

“SSPs would also be asked to file action taken report in this regard. Orders would also be issued to ensure compliance of the provision of filing challan within 60 days,” informed Kaur while quoting the ADGP.
