Taking serious note of the ‘irresponsive behaviour’ shown by Punjab local Bodies Department, the State Scheduled Caste panel on Friday summoned the department’s secretary and director with a condition of their personal appearance before the Commission for June 23. Spokesperson said that the Commission had received a complaint in 2009 from the legal assistant of Municipal Corporation ludhiana Harish Bhagat, who had raised the issue of partial treatment meted out to the scheduled castes in the matter of promotion as legal assistant.
“The Commission has taken a serious note of the complaint and sought a report from local government department but the department did not pay any heed to it. After this, in spite of repeated reminders sent by the Commission, neither did department submit any replied nor any of its officers appeared before the Commission,” said the spokesperson. Considering the graveness of the issue, the Commission has directed the Secretary and Director of the department to appear before it on June 23 along with report and sworn statements.
