Punjab SC panel orders DGP to constitute investigation cell

Published on:

Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission on Wednesday ordered the state Director General of Police to constitute an ‘Investigation Cell’ to examine complaints related to the Scheduled Castes.

After listening complainants and reviewing the investigation reports received from the Director Bureau of Investigation, Punjab, the Commission’s chairperson Tejinder Kaur said that the Commission felt that despite many complaints being true, most of the investigation reports of the Investigation Bureau are contrary to the facts and against the aggrieved person.

In order to ensure justice to the SCs of Punjab and to protect their rights, she said that the commission has written a letter to ex-officio member and Punjab DGP under sub-section (c) of section 3(2) of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Act-2004 for constitution of a four-member Investigation Cell in the Director's Bureau of Investigation, Punjab, which will be headed by an IG rank officer who belongs to the SC community and two other member police officers must be in the rank of DIG and AIG.

Apart from this, a Scheduled Castes legal advisor should also be included in this Cell. The chairperson added that instructions have already been issued to apprise the Commission about the action taken within 15 days in this regard.
